Being a curious kitty, I also had lots and lots of questions!!
I asked for my own page so I could let everyone know some pretty
neat things about me and, of course, other kitties too!

kitty facts!! Did You Know
Cats love to hear the sound of their own name and your voice,
so talk to them often :) The cat is the only animal that walks on its claws,
not on the pads of its feet.
Another reason to not declaw your kitty. It is a common belief that cats are color blind.
However, recent research has shown that cats can see
blue and green and possibly red. Black cat superstitions originated in America.
In Asia and England, a black cat is considered lucky! A cat in a hurry can sprint at about thirty-one miles per hour. A cat can jump as much as seven times its height. A cat can be either right-pawed or left-pawed. Cats have five toes on each front paw,
but only four toes on each back paw. Both humans and cats have identical regions in the brain
responsible for emotion. A cat has a total of 24 whiskers, 4 rows of whiskers on each side.
The upper two rows can move independently of the bottom two rows.
A cat uses its whiskers for measuring distances. A cat can be either right-pawed or left-pawed. Declawing a cat is the equivalent of cutting a human's fingers off at the knuckle.
“Ouchy! Please don’t do this.” A cat will spend nearly 30% of its life grooming itself. Cats are known to sleep from 16-18 hours a day.
While cats are sleeping they remain alert to the slightest stimuli. In relation to their body size, cats have the largest eyes of any mammal. Chemicals can be absorbed through a cat's paws.
Floor waxes and cleaning solutions pose a particular danger. Human painkillers such acetaminophen (Tylenol) are highly toxic to cats. Almost half of all cats receive Christmas gifts. Cats can make more than 100 different vocal sounds.
Dogs can make about 10. All the big cats, including lions and tigers, react to catnip just the way our little cats do.
In fact, some zoos give their big cats catnip as part of a general program of environmental enrichment. If your cat is in the habit of rolling over and exposing his stomach, you can be sure he feels perfectly safe with you.
It's also a way of demonstrating his pleasure in your company. Cats rank high up on the intelligence scale, and one of their greatest assets is memory.
Studies at the University of Michigan and the American Museum of Natural History show
that cats can remember problem-solving strategies for as long as 16 hours. It has been scientifically proven that stroking a cat
can lower one's blood pressure. Spaying or neutering a cat extends their life span by
two or three years. Cats use more than 500 muscles to leap, jump, and sprint. Nostradamus the French Astrologer, 1503-1566,
had a cat named Grimalkin. All cats are born with blue eyes. By three months of age their eye
color will have changed to it's permanent color.
Most cats have no eyelashes.
"Purring does not always mean happiness. Purring could mean a cat is in terrible pain such as during childbirth. Kittens will purr to their mother to let her know they are getting enough milk while nursing. Purring is a process of inhaling and exhaling, usually performed while the mouth is closed.
